The Philharmonie in Paris is France’s new international centre for music. The futuristic building made of concrete and curved, glossy aluminium was created by French architect Jean Nouvel and, with its smooth contours, seamlessly blends in with the surrounding landscape of the “Parc de la Villette”. The six-storey Philharmonie comprises fifteen rehearsal rooms, a centre for musical education, auditoria, a recording studio, a restaurant, cafés, bars, as well as an exhibition area, in which temporary exhibitions are held alternately with events on the musical programme. The heart of the “Centre Pompidou de la musique” is the grand concert hall with 2,400 seats, which is an innovative achievement in terms of scenography and architecture as well as acoustics. The places can now be freely adjusted, so that even the rearmost rows are closer to the orchestra than in any other concert hall of this size. The right choice of floor covering plays a vital role in acoustics as well. The carpet quality HIGHLOW 900 from OBJECT CARPET fulfils the requirements for extreme durability and pleasing spacial acoustics in equal measure.
